It is a time for deep healing and restoration.

Frequently Asked Colon Hydrotherapy Questions
Question: What is the benefit of colon hydrotherapy?
Answer: People choose to receive colon hydrotherapy for a variety of personal and holistic wellness reasons. Some of the most common benefits of colon hydrotherapy are ridding the body of excess waste material which causes or poses the risk of causing several health problems. Toxins from this waste buildup will re-enter and circulate in the blood stream leaving an individual feeling ill, tired or weak. Impacted materials can impair the colons ability to assimilate minerals and good bacteria that produce vitamins. Additionally, a buildup of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements and constipation. The colon is an important organ of elimination but also is vital in detoxifying the body as a whole.
Question: What should I expect, physically, from my colon hydrotherapy session?
Answer: Each individual may experience a slightly different reaction physically. The level of toxins an individual carries is based upon a variety of factors both internal and external. Some individuals, most commonly, report feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after a session. Other individuals experience the session more like a workout at the gym. It is important to remember that colon hydrotherapy is just that, a workout for the muscles of the large intestines. Once your muscles recover from the workout, the resulting feelings are often positive and energizing.
Question: How long does a colon hydrotherapy session last?
Answer: Each session will vary based upon the individual. The goal is to detoxify the body and it is encouraged that this is done through by listening to the natural responses of the body. Once situated on the device, a session can last anywhere from 35 to 60 minutes. Each session is adjusted to the individual and the amount of time the session will take ultimately is determined by the body. It is recommended that the client be prepared to spend 90 to 120 minutes at the center on their first visit to ensure enough time for a thorough consultation, health history and a question and answer session.
Question: Will I experience pain during my session?
Answer: Most commonly, people do not describe colon hydrotherapy as painful. There may be times throughout the session that an individual experiences cramping or nausea associated with toxic releases, however these times are often short lived and pass quickly. Clients are provided with a warm flax seed bag to place upon the abdomen that helps to eliminate or alleviate any associated cramping that could be experienced. Most often people will describe feeling refreshed, revived and full of energy once they have completed the session.
Question: What should I expect after the session?
Answer: Following a colon hydrotherapy session you should be able to function and carry on with your daily activities unaffected. It is vitally important however, that you follow the directions and recommendations from your therapists; allowing your body enough time at the end of the session to drain completely of excess water left in the large intestines. Once the colon has been rid of excess water, most people report feel energized and lighter.
Question: What is the recommended diet following a colon hydrotherapy session?
Answer: Following your session you are welcome to eat meals as your body prescribes. Some individuals complete the session and experience hunger while others do not. You can eat as closely following your session as you choose and eat whatever foods you wish. However, it is encouraged for best results you choose a lighter diet for the next 24 hours. This diet may consist of things such as soups, broths, cooked vegetables, and fruits or juices. After that initial 24 hours it is appropriate to start reintroducing lean proteins such as chicken, fish and eggs back into the diet. Immediately following the colon hydrotherapy session, the colon does not need excess fiber rich foods so cooked vegetables are often preferred over raw vegetables.
Question: How do I prepare for a session?
Answer: The colon hydrotherapy session is fairly low maintenance with little required preparation. It is recommended that you avoid eating two hours prior to the appointment time. This allows for the majority of previously consumed food to pass from the stomach to the small intestines, where the excess pressure on the abdomen will no longer create nausea or discomfort.
Question: Is the process embarrassing?
Answer: Your entire session and consultation at Serenity Health & Wellness Center is conducted within the privacy or you and your therapists. In most cases of potential contra-indication it is recommended that you speak with your physician prior to completing you session as it is often acceptable to proceed with the procedure with approval.
Contra-Indications to be taken under advisement include: abdominal hernias, surgery, or abnormal distention; acute liver failure or dialysis; anemia; aneurysms; carcinoma of the colon; Crohns Disease and Colitis; Diverticulosis or Diverticulitis; Fissures and Fistulas; Hemorrhaging; Hemorrhoidectomy; Intestinal Perforations; Lupus; Rectal or Colon Surgery; Renal Insufficiencies; ingestion of medications which weaken the intestinal wall; and pregnancy.
Question: How big is the rectal nozzle?
Answer: The one time use, sterile, self-inserted rectal nozzle is approximately the size of a pencil. Each client is given specific instructions on methods to insert the nozzle gently and effectively. With the ergonomic design of the nozzle, it is only necessary to insert approximately 1” to 1.5” to complete the session.
Question: What is the difference between colon hydrotherapy and an enema or a laxative?
Answer: The Colon Hydrotherapy session will clean and cleanse the entire five feet of the large intestines through water integration that softens and releases build up on the intestinal wall. Traditional enemas will only clean the lower portion of the colon including the descending and sigmoid colon regions. Laxatives often encourage muscular contractions which help the body to eliminate waste, but do not soften or effectively remove build up from the intestinal wall.
Question: How often should I have colon hydrotherapy?
Answer: Each person will experience a different result from an individual colon hydrotherapy session or a group of sessions. The Colon Hydrotherapist will make recommendations regarding follow up sessions based on the results from the initial session and each clients self reported goals.
The Naturopathic approach recommends two sessions on back-to-back days, followed by a weeklong break and ending with two more back-to-back days of sessions. Following this initial detoxification one session per week is recommended for following eight weeks. This consists of a total of 12 sessions over ten weeks.
Knowing that not everyone is capable of this intense of a detoxification program, we offer individual sessions, multi-session packages and VIP memberships consisting of12 sessions over a 12 month time period, allowing for an ease into the process both physically and financially.

Question: Can I just drink excess water to achieve the same results I will get from colon hydrotherapy?
Answer: The object of colon hydrotherapy is to over hydrate the large intestines to the point in which excess water will build up, soften, and release toxic wastes from the intestinal wall. Though an increase in water intake will keep the body hydrated as necessary, it likely will not produce the over hydration necessary for the desired result of waste buildup elimination. As an example, if excess water intake produced the same result then we would find physicians prescribing it as preparation for Colonoscopy procedures rather than prescribing a drinkable substance to result in the complete cleansing of the colon.
