What exactly is cellulite?
Cellulite comprises of fat cell globules found in the deeper layer of the skin (subcutis). As these globules enlarge, they upwardly push the skin just above them making it protrude causing the familiar dimples.
At the same time the fibrous strands holding the skin together stretches, shortening and becoming less elastic. The skin just above these strands is thereby pulled downwards, making the dimples more pronounced. This is a structure similar of a mattress, with the fat corresponding to the mattress foam and the fibrous strands the buttons sewn deep inside the mattress.
In summary, cellulite is a combination of superficial fat accumulation, connective tissue deformity, inflammation, water retention, skin loosening, and toxin/waste product accumulation. The complex nature of cellulite is responsible for the difficulty in curing it. The enlargement of fat clusters and shortening of fibrous tissue is almost always accompanied by inflammation, water retention, poor circulation, loose skin, and toxin build up. This is because all these phenomena share the same causes described below.
What causes cellulite?
Excess fat in the superficial fat cells enlarges them, starting the cellulite creation process. However, for the cellulite phenomenon to occur we also need estrogen. Estrogen creates the cellulite architecture in the deeper layers of skin stimulating the proliferation of superficial fat cells. No estrogen means no cellulite. Estrogen and excess calories in combination causes cellulite, not on their own.
Sedentary living and inactivity, even in the presence of the perfect diet, worsens cellulite’s appearance as it favors fat cell growth at the expense of collagen cells. Inactivity also leads to poor circulation and lymph drainage, further aggravating cellulite.

There is no particular supplement that directly affects cellulite better than the above foods. However, a high quality multivitamin is indispensable in the polluted and stressful world we live today. If I had cellulite I would prefer to target my cellulite directly with nutrients contained in a good cellulite cream than by taking any single supplement.
